Telluride has a rich history, anchored in entrepreneurship and innovation. Most notably, Telluride was the first place to demonstrate the superiority of alternating current electricity. In 1891, Nikola Telsa and George Westinghouse collaborated to electrify a mine in Gold King Basin. Later, Telluride became the first town in the country to be powered by electricity.
The mining era transformed the region into an economic engine that produced hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity and employed thousands of residents. The ’70s and ’80s brought about the region’s entrepreneurial transformation into a world-class skiing and tourism destination.
The Telluride Venture Accelerator seeks to usher in yet another period of innovation and reinvention.
